As an actress with great versatility, Yeni Alvarez has developed a successful career in television, film and stage. Currently, she can be seen in the hilarious Columbia/TriStar and Sony Pictures comedy "Los Beltran", where she plays the loveable Anita Beltran, a young, outgoing law student, who brings her Chicano newlywed husband into her parents' super Cuban household.
Audiences may remember Yeni Alvarez as the sassy hostess of "Miami Hoy", a TV magazine show, which premiered through MediaOne in South Florida. She also garnered attention for her portrayal of Alina, a young Cuban girl who left her country on a raft, seeking a better life in the US, in the critically acclaimed feature film "Freedom", showcased in several festivals across the U.S.
Born in Cuba and raised in Miami, Florida, to Cuban parents, Yeni studied in the Young Actor's Workshop, Marymount Manhattan College in New York City, and Florida International University, where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Theater.
Seeking new challenges, Yeni moved to Los Angeles in January 1999 and in her very first audition landed the pilot for "Los Beltran", which currently airs nationally every Sunday at 8pm on Telemundo. After two hugely successful seasons, "Los Beltran" gained national attention for doubling the ratings of the Telemundo Network, and receiving numerous prestigous awards including: Golden Eagle Award, Imagen Award, Alma Award, and two consecutive nominations for the GLAAD Awards against shows like "Sex in the City" and "Will and Grace".
Yeni's passion for the art of acting keeps her drawn to independent features as she continues to evolve her career through exciting and challenging roles. Her latest projects include a guest star role on "Resurrection Blvd" for Showtime and leading roles in the films "Prisoner of Fate" and "Brothers and Sisters". Yeni Alvarez currently resides in Los Angeles.
