June 3, 2001, El Capitan Theater, Hollywood, CA.
When it comes to premieres, Disney really knows how to roll out the red carpet, no pun intended! In this case it was a blue carpet in keeping with the theme of the day. In the wake of the hit film SHREK from competing studio Dreamworks SKG, Disney hopes to conjure up its' own hit animation film with the latest from the house that the Mouse built, ATLANTIS: THE LOST EMPIRE. Heading up the cast and also present at the premiere was Michael J. Fox with other voice talents in tow including Cree Summer, Claudia Christian, Phil Morris, Jacqueline Obradors, Don
Novello, David Ogden Stiers and Florence Stanley. Other well known faces making their way into the historic El Capitan Theater in the heart of Hollywood were Jane Seymour and twins, Hunter Tylo, Paula Abdul, Melissa Joan Hart and younger sisters, Wilmer Valderrama, Mae Whitman, David Hasselhoff and family, Mimi Rogers, Estelle Harris, Sean Astin, Carla Gugino, Jesse James, Virginia Madsen and Rachael Leigh Cook.
Michael J. Fox stars as Milo James Thatch a bookworm type that is insistent on the existence of the fabled city of Atlantis. One day he gets his chance to find this enchanted underwater metropolis with a vessel and crew at his disposal but during their voyage he finds himself wondering what the intention of the expedition may be.
