Biography: Born James Bumgarner in 1928 in Oklahoma, actor James Garner's went to work at the age of 8 in order to help pay the bills. In 55 Garner signed with Warnder Bros. Studios and worked as a guest star on a number of westerns before landing his own series, the hit show "Maverick." After Maverick Garner went on to star in a number of movies including "The Children's Hour" and "The Great Escape" and continued to work for a number of decades. Recently, he has starred in such movies as "Maverick," "My Fellow Americans," and "Space Cowboys."
