Biography: Born on 1/30/1930 in San Bernadino, California, actor Gene Hackman grew up during the height of the Great Depression and never acted as a child. At the age of 16, Hackman enlisted in the Army, and after serving in the Pacific and being honorably discharged in 52 he worked a number of odd jobs before drifting to California and deciding to become an actor. After a number of small television and off-Broadway roles, Hackman got his big break in the movie "Bonnie and Clyde." From there Hackman went on to star in such hits as "The French Connection," "Superman," "Hoosiers," "Mississippi Burning," "Unforgiven," "The Firm," and "Crimson Tide" to name
a few. Generally, Hackman is one of the most respected actors in Hollywood today, and his presence in a movie can easily elevate its intelligence.
