Tom Hanks Biography: Back to back Oscar winner Tom Hanks was born on 7/9/1956 in Concord, California. Being classically trained as an actor Hanks's big break came playing the lead in the surprise hit "Splash". After shrugging off a few box-office bombs, Hanks once again hit it big in 1988's "Big". Not until 1993 did Hanks score again in the romantic comedy "Sleepless in Seattle", but true respect was gained while playing an AIDS victim in "Philadelphia". That performance netted him an Oscar, as did his performance in "Forrest Gump" a year later. Next came "Saving Private Ryan", and "The Green Mile".
