"Kill Bill" DVD Release Party at the Playboy Mansion

Article and Photos by Laura Alber

Quentin Tarantino and the Kill Bill Bunnies

EZ hit the Playboy Mansion Monday night to enjoy the festivities for the release of "Kill Bill" on DVD. The night was nothing less than surreal! The event was so well organized and seemed to go off without a hitch. If there were any kinks...nobody was aware of them! Everyone shuttled to the mansion from UCLA, even coming up the long driveway through the hedges, you think you're entering some secret lair.

Once there, it was off to my spot on the red carpet to await the arrival of the celebs. The first one down was Sharon Osbourne. The camera crews at the front of the line took so long with the celebs, that by the time Sharon came down farther, she was walking so fast I missed getting her picture! So...later I went down to her table and had a nice chat with Mrs. Osbourne and she was kind enough to pose for a picture for me.

Next down the carpet was Antonio Sabato Jr., the girls went wild!! Julie Dreyfus from the film arrived and was so graceful and charming. Gerald McRaney passed through and graciously gave me a pose. D.L. Hughley was a riot! "On Air with Ryan Seacrest" was right next to me, and the reporter was asking him if he was there for the Playboy Mansion, or for Kill Bill? His response...99% Playboy, 1% Kill Bill!

Next up, the hilarious Paul Rodriguez. I talked with him a little bit, and asked when we would be seeing some more stand-up from him. He's been busy with an independent film recently, so the stand-up will have to wait.

The beautiful Vivica A. Fox arrived with several friends, and could barely get away from the camera crews. Everyone wanted to get an interview. But, she finally made it down the carpet, and posed for me with some fans. She and her friends later in the evening came and sat at the table with my guest and I. She was having a good time, but was getting so tired from all the photo ops! Her friends and us had a blast though. We were dancing, laughing and loving every minute of the party.

Leelee Sobieski, one of the great young actresses today made it down the carpet. I had to get a picture of her whole ensemble she had on. So, she posed while I about fell backwards trying to get enough space to fit her in the picture! The red carpet was so narrow, and you were literally right on top of the celebs, so these poor people had the cameras right IN their faces! They didn't seem to mind, everyone was so wonderful and generous of their time.

David Carradine...or "Bill" I should say, was one of the nicest most charming men I've ever met. I would have never pictured, Mr. "Kung Fu" himself, being such a gentleman...but, guess that just proves you can't judge a book by it's cover! He was pure "class".

Finally, Hef himself walked the carpet with his entourage in tow. The cameras going off lit up the whole party area! The bunnies were so sweet, and the thrill for me that night, was getting a pic with the man himself!

Vanessa Marcil, of "90210", and Brenda of "General Hospital" was as beautiful as ever. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to tell her how much she was missed on G.H., you never know... maybe she'll decide to come back! It was worth a shot! :)

2 1/2 hours late, Quentin Tarantino arrived! It was 10:30 and the party was due to be over at 11:00. Needless to say, they extended the party since he wouldn't have even made it off the carpet by 11! The camera crews that had been anxiously awaiting his arrival were in full force with flashes going off, camera crews interviewing him, the cast that was already there had to go back to the carpet to join him for photo ops, it was quite a sight for sure!

The party was lavished with wonderful food, an open bar, a great D.J., and Playboy "Nurses" giving people their doses of jello shots! It didn't take long before the grotto was packed, and the nude swimming began. What's a party at the mansion without naked swimmers?

Even the event planners and publicists were able to take a much needed break, and kick back for a while.

All in all, the evening was a success. Everyone enjoyed themselves...and in the end...that's all that matters!

Kudos to the planners, and to Hef for the wonderful event! It was truly a night to remember.
