Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, Bad Company and U2.

Her voice has been most compared to Janis Joplin and Melissa Etheridge.

Currently some of her favorite CDs include The Best of Bread and U2's The Joshua Tree.
Deanna lived and gigged in Vancouver for five years before making the leap to Los Angeles where she performed with a band called The MVPs.

Deanna Johnston's Rockstar: Supernova Blogs!

Hey everybody! Are you seeing the hype for Supernova? Time to get this party started! Let the rockin' begin... This gig should be fun! Check back..

7/18 Show: Hey y'all!!! Saw my 2nd episode of RS tonight. It's so different from last year, different kind of singers, since obviously SuperNova and INXS have nothing in common musically. Jessica, probably would have loved being on this season!!!! I may have gone further in this season too, more rock!! But honestly though, I have no idea why some of the 'rockers' are even on the show. I have a friend, who auditioned, he should be on that stage, but oh well!!! I LOVE Dilana. She sounds like a cross between Stevie Nicks and Kim Carnes. Very cool tone in her voice, and definitely has her own unique vibe. I really like Josh's voice as well, but probably not suitable for SuperNova. Something about Phil is cool, love his overall vibe. Storm is HOT! But ya know what people, I miss the Steve Perry's, the Paul Rodger's, the Lou Graham's. These are the REAL singers, where are the new ones????? Later, D

7/25 Show: Better Live!!

I was at the taping this week!! It was killer LIVE, of course everything is better live!! Supernova gave some GREAT suggestions and critiques. They were really direct and specific, which I wish we had more of last season. Wow, ya gotta love Storm!! She's wild and unpredictable, just like what Supernova wants. She's sexy too!!! Zayra's outfit was great. I just can't get into her voice though and sometimes she's sort of 'snippy' with her attitude. Lukas is really cool, but I do agree, not sure if he's capable of much more vocally than what we've seen. Dilana's voice is so cool, love her tone. I have no idea who Supernova will pick. I'm not sure anyone is really nailing it at this point? If we could put Dilana's voice into Storm, that'd be perfect..!!!! See y'all next week. D

8/23 Show: Yawn?????

Hey y'all!!!! Well, I watched RS last night, and I'm just not LOVING ANYONE ya know? I want a Steven Tyler, I want a Robert Plant, they are larger than life, great vocal tone, interesting voices, sex appeal, cool vibe, dresses great, in the moment on stage. I"m just not getting it from anyone in the current RS. Singers now are inspired and influenced by the 'new rock' and well, my opinion is that new rock is SO LACKING, SO WATERED DOWN, COOKIE CUTTER. Now, please, I'm not saying I"m any better, believe me, but I just want a REAL ROCK STAR TO LOOK UP AT FROM THE CROWD, ONE THAT'LL WET MY PANTIES AND BLOW ME AWAY WITH THEIR VOICE AND VIBE!!!!! I WANNA BELIEVE, I WANNA SCREAM........Steven Tyler, please call me!!!! Later, D PS. Sorry if I"ve offended anyone with my crude panty remark or insult to modern rock.

8/29 Show: Cool night....

Wow, so much drama tonight with Dilana.....what's beautiful and tragic about being anyone who exists artistically and is driven creatively and thinks with the left side of the brain, is the emotional intensity that is inside. The high's and passion are so intense, but then the downs, the hard times are so deeply felt and can really debilitate and be draining. I felt really bad for Dilana, she's a sweet girl, and a classic example of a day in the life of a musician!!!! GAAAHHH!!!! As we say in the Valley.........

Magni -funny guy!!!! Cool how he got stuck in the crowd......

Lukas - cool....

Ryan - nice dude, he's become my favorites, something believable and raw about him, I believe who he is and what he's putting across...great show, in the moment.......I bet being there in person was HUGE, INTENSE amazing.....

How about hearing some new tunes on RS!!! There's a ton of material to choose from???? Come on producers!!!!

Storm - seeing her perform tonight sort of reminded me of my 'hard' week....trying to sing a tune that just isn't right. But she did a good job!!!!! It was obviously not her thing, but she did great. Love her!!!! She's a cool girl!! Someone I'd like to hang with!!!

Toby - ok, cool dude, got the girls up, classic rock star!!! They loved it!!! He should work in a corporate band!!

Dilana - Wow, so intense, that must have been crazy, so in your face live!! Very cool!!!! I dug it, she sung it real cool too!!!! She looked really cool and natural with the guitar, knows how to work it!!!!

Great show overall, BUT again, none vocally are undeniable, only Dilana, and maybe Storm in moments, have a true 'singer's' voice. Later kidz!!!! D

9/5 Show: Storm kicked ass!!!

Hey ya'll! What's up?? Well, tonight I have to admit I was more interested in the computer than watching the show. But I thought Storm really kicked ass tonight. LOVED her original tune, love how she down plays her looks and works the stage, audience and camera. She's got a ton of energy. Her voice has interesting qualities to it as well, that I'm intrigued by. Dilana, Magni and Toby didn't really 'do it for me' tonight. Although, Toby did have a catchy original tune. BUT LUKAS, dude, forgive me, but I hated 'livin' on a prayer'! Thought it was horrible. Exposed his limited voice and guitar playing. Yuck.....Very cool that they're going on tour with Supernova as the opening act once the show is over. Wish we had that opportunity with INXS. The fans deserved a tour!!!! Oh well.......til next week, D
