Actual Cast Members, Lavish 3D Environments and Intense Challenges Highlight Official Game of the Hit CBS TV Series
October 2001. Delivering the wildly popular television series Survivor(TM) to a new medium, Infogrames Inc. (Nasdaq: IFGM) and CBS Consumer Products have shipped Survivor(TM): The Interactive Game for the PC to retail stores this week. The first release in the Survivor(TM) series of interactive games announced by Infogrames, Inc., Survivor(TM): The Interactive Game was developed by Magic Lantern Playware, a creative business unit of Gold Creek Technology. The inaugural edition features the real-life casts from the first two Survivor(TM) television series - Pulau Tiga and Australia - and incorporates many of the exciting elements from the show including the infamous Immunity Challenges and Tribal Council.
"We are excited to have worked with CBS Consumer Products to bring Survivor(TM) to the interactive world," said Paul Rinde, senior vice president of Infogrames, Inc. Minneapolis label. "With more than 72 million viewers nationwide and in Canada, Infogrames' believes all fans are ready to fully immerse themselves in the Survivor(TM) universe from the comfort of their home computers. Until now, only a select few have had the opportunity to take part in the Survivor(TM) drama. Now fans everywhere can take part."
"Infogrames has successfully brought the excitement and intensity of Survivor(TM) to the interactive gaming world," said Kenneth Ross, Vice President and General Manager, CBS Consumer Products. "We're confident fans of the series will enjoy this game. Playing to see if they have what it takes to become the winning Survivor is the ultimate challenge. It will compel gamers and fans to compete again and again."
In Survivor(TM): The Interactive Game, players may choose cast members from the first or second season, or create their own character. When creating a character, players must allocate points across 10 different skill categories, which include strength, cooking, communication, running, empathy and cunning. The strategies deployed must complement the skill sets of a player, as they will greatly impact the player's ability to survive both Tribal Council and nature's elements.
Once the game begins, each player chooses a role or task to complete, such as cooking, hunting, fishing or fire tender. The decisions made will affect the players standing within the group, and can either hurt or help when Tribal Council arrives. At Tribal Council, players will get the opportunity to vote off other remaining survivors and experience all of the rituals featured in the television series.
Forming alliances and keeping strong relationships are crucial to achieving victory. From the character screen, players can view their feelings and alliances with each of the other members and manage them accordingly. These factors range from weak to neutral to strong. In addition to performing basic survival tasks and managing relationships, players of Survivor(TM): The Interactive Game participate in exciting competitions for Rewards and Immunity, such as Raise the Flag, Ant Hill and Prison Break.
Under terms of the previously announced agreement with CBS Consumer Products, Infogrames, Inc. has acquired the exclusive rights to develop and publish interactive games based on the Survivor(TM) television series in the United States and Canada for PC and Mac, as well as current and next-generation console platforms, including handheld systems.
