"The 25th Hour" Trailer Online!! Distributors Release Date: December 20th, 2002 (limited release); January 10th, 2003 (wider) Confirmed Cast to date: Edward Norton (Montgomery "Monty" Brogan) Behind the camera: Director: Spike Lee Screenwriter: David Benioff Producers: Julia Chasman, Jon Kilik, Spike Lee, Tobey Maguire, Edward Norton, Nick Wechsler Plot: (Director Spike Lee and star Ed Norton team up to bring David Benioff's novel to the screen. The novel focuses on Monty Brogan, who grew up wanting to be a firefighter, but was lured by the glamour and money of the life of a drug dealer to the rich and famous. He is now paying the price, having been sentenced to a seven-year jail term, which is scheduled to begin the following day. He spends his last day of freedom dealing with his father, his drug-lord boss, his girlfriend, and, most importantly, his two high school buddies, a highly successful bond trader and a high-school English teacher. The three spend that last night together, though all the while Monty has a plan that provides a surprise twist ending. UPDATE: 5/19/02: Touchstone is aiming for a December, 2002 release in time to be considered for this year's award season. The low budget, dark subject matter [the novel has been compared to Requiem for a Dream], and the prestige of Lee and Norton do indeed suggest that a) it could be finished in time and b) it could be award-friendly fare (though maybe not the Oscars). UPDATE: 5/19/02: Production started on May 1st, 2002 in New York City on a small budget of less than $5 million. UPDATE: Filming has wrapped.
