Overseeing the project at Regency is executive vp Peter Cramer for production topper Sanford Panitch. Kidman and Pitt are repped by CAA. Kidman, additionally repped by Handprint Entertainment, is in production on Fine Line Features' Birth and will follow with Paramount Pictures' The Stepford Wives. Pitt, additionally repped by Brillstein-Grey Entertainment, will begin shooting Warner Bros. Pictures/Village Road Show Pictures' Troy in April.

The Oscar-winning actress is currently shooting "The Stepford Wives" for Paramount and may not finish in time for Doug Liman-directed "Mr. and Mrs. Smith."

A representative for Kidman states, "Nothing has been finalized" and that Pitt's availability to start shooting will also affect the coordination of schedules.

UPDATE:

According to reports, Mrs Michael Douglas is set to take over Nicole Kidman's role in the movie, Mr and Mrs Smith.
Starring alongside Brad Pitt, the Oscar winner Zeta-Jones is said to very keen to work with Pitt in the story of a bored married couple who discover they are both assassins.
Can you blame her? She's obviously gagging to mix with her age group.
Kidman pulled out of shooting due to her hectic filming schedule, but producers are still busy trying to juggle production around her workload.
The Australian actress is currently filming Baz Luhrmann's version of Alexander the Great opposite Leonardo DiCaprio.
Zeta-Jones has already worked with Pitt on animated flick Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, but the pair never met until its premiere.

UPDATE:

Only a month after losing Nicole Kidman from "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," the Regency Enterprises film will be handed divorce papers from male lead Brad Pitt as well, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The actor is filming "Troy" in Mexico until September, after which he intended to shoot "Smith." In February, Pitt will start "Ocean's Twelve," the sequel to the 2001 heist flick "Ocean's Eleven" for director Stephen Soderbergh.
Possible replacements for Pitt's "Smith" role include Will Smith and Johnny Depp, sources say.
Based on an original screenplay by Simon Kinberg, the story centers on a bored married couple who discover they are enemy assassins hired to kill each other. Doug Liman ("The Bourne Identity") will direct.

UPDATE:
