UPDATES:
Angelina Jolie recently told The Daily Record that some work has already begun. "It looks like it's going to happen. They are writing another one. I am going to be Lara Croft again. If we can make it a hundred times better, if we can do a whole bunch of new things, think of a whole new sequence, get a great script with everything that nobody has ever seen before - then we will do it."
EW.com (http://www.ew.com) speaks with "Tomb Raider" producer Larry Gordon, and reveals that while Gordon and Paramount are fast-tracking "Tomb Raider 2" after the first film's success at the box-office, problems have surfaced due to recent events that have dwindled people's desire to shoot overseas.
"We have a script, and Paramount wants to make it," says Gordon. ''But people not wanting to shoot overseas is now more of a concern."
"I'm very concerned about the safety of the crew, of me and Lloyd [Levin, his producing partner], and Angelina, and everyone else," he says. "If something happens in the world and things get worse and you can't fly, well, you can't fly."

Jolie Gets Her Way In Tomb Raider 2
Angelina Jolie has signed up for a sequel to Tomb Raider because she'll be able to try out the latest underwater technology and train with circus troupe Cirque Du Soleil. The actress played Lara Croft in the 2001 action adventure and had reservations about enhancements that made her seem more curvy, so she's stipulating that the sequel will be an underwater adventure that will see her character looking more athletic. She says, "I want to be much, much stronger. I would love to train with Cirque Du Soleil. Lara Croft should be more athletic and cut. "In the beginning of the first movie, we added padding to make me one cup size bigger. Also, I put on about 20 pounds for the role. And then, there were days when I was on my period that I was that much bigger. "I'd also like to go underwater in the next movie. I'm just curious about what gadgets can be used underwater - it's like James Bond.

Variety is reporting that with studios dishing out franchises left and right, one potential A-list director has his eye on "Tomb Raider 2."
The trade reports that "Speed" and "Twister" director Jan De Bont is in talks to direct the next "Tomb Raider" film, with Angelina Jolie expected to reprise her role as the butt-kicking Lara Croft. Paramount is expected to begin production on the sequel in the fall.
UPDATE:
FilmJerk reports that "Tomb Raider 2" has set its production start date at August 26th. Shooting will take place in England, Greece, and Africa, under the direction of Jan De Bont ("Twister").
The site reports that the new bad guy is Chen Lo, the head of a Chinese crime syndicate who is a combination of a businessman, negotiator, and killer.
UPDATE:
Jolie to show more skin in "Tomb Raider 2"
The Daily Sun reported that Angelina Jolie is set to strip down even more in "Tomb Raider 2" for several sequences where she will be lacking, well, clothes.
An insider to the tabloid said, "It will please the 15-year-old boys who can't talk their parents into renting Original Sin for them. [However] the makers could put a block on the strip as they wouldn't want Lara to be seen in a bad light."
UPDATE:
The official Red Dwarf: The Movie website reports that Chris Barrie, who is also set to star in that film, will reprise his role as Lara Croft's butler Hillary in Tomb Raider 2.
Details are currently sketchy, though it appears that Ms Jolie will reprise the role of Lara Croft in a film that is rumoured to be more 'science-fiction-y' that its predecessor. John Voight, Jolie's real-life and on-screen father, has also expressed an interest in reappearing. Rumors from Pinewood currently put Speed and Twister director Jan de Bont in the director's chair - though production is not set to begin until the autumn.
Best of all is the news that Chris Barrie will once again be donning the butler's outfit to play Hillary, Lara's fussing companion. No word yet on if he'll be kicking bottom with a shotgun once more - though Chris was apparently such a hit in the first film that his role will be much increased this time around.
UPDATE:
From Greg's Previews @ Yahoo:
This time around, archaeologist and explorer extraordinaire journeys to a temple, sunken underwater, that leads to a sphere that contains the mythical Pandora's Box, only to have it stolen from her by Chen Lo, the leader of a Chinese crime syndicate, who's in league with a bad guy named Reiss who wants to use the Box as a doomsday weapon... (at least, that's what the script review over at Corona says the movie is about; Paramount hasn't said anything officially, as of 7/12/02, but the elements laid out here, that there is a major underwater sequence, that Chen Lo is the name of the villain, etc., have been mentioned elsewhere online) (Butler plays Jolie's ex-boyfriend; Djimon Hounsou plays a Masai warrior who escorts Angelina when she goes to Africa)
UPDATE:
Tough Time for Jolie on 'Tomb Raider 2' Set
Sultry screen siren Angelina Jolie has been feeling the pressure on the set of Tomb Raider 2. Sources report a breakdown in relations between Jolie and director Jan De Bont because he is such a hard taskmaster. A source says, "He's pushing everybody hard, especially the crew, and Angelina feels sorry for them. The pair have a cold, professional relationship. There's no warmth or camaraderie between them." The frosty relationship may stem from the fact Tomb Raider 2 is regarded by many as De Bont's make or break feature, having scored little directorial success since 1996's hurricane flick Twister.
UPDATE:
'Tomb Raider 2': Lara Gets Sexier
9 January 2003 (WENN)
Hollywood beauty Angelina Jolie has made a mouthwatering promise to male fans of her character Lara Croft - in the next Tomb Raider film she will be much sexier. Jolie, who is currently divorcing second husband Billy Bob Thornton, has changed the way she prepared for reprising the role of the intrepid archeologist in The Cradle Of Life - and the results have been pleasing on the eye. She says, "I think we see more sides to her. This feels more like a real film than the last one - it's a little less silly and Lara's more of a woman. The funny thing is, I realized I was almost doing too much training the last time. And I was on too many protein powder things - it made me curvier. This time I just ate normal food and lots of it: stuff like beans and eggs on toast. Then I trained as much as possible. This time Lara's leaner and stronger, sexier and sharper."
