Vanilla Sky

On one of the coldest nights of the year a jubilated Tom Cruise escorted his Spanish starlet Penelope Cruz to the grand unspooling of Cameron Crowe's latest emotional rollercoaster. Surprisingly Tom & Penelope were the first to arrive breaking the tradition of the main stars arriving late for a more dramatically entrance. Paramount Pictures took control of all of Hollywood Blvd in front of the legendary Grauman's Chinese Theater (yes they changed back the original name to Grauman's) with still loads of screaming onlookers despite the frigid cold that whipped through the fabled streets of Hollywood. VANILLA SKY is the American version of the 1997 Spanish film ABRE LOS OJOS and promises to frustrate some, thrill others and just flat out confuse most! Cruise plays vain, millionaire womanizer David Aames who is accused of murder after his jealous conquest Julie Gianni (Cameron Diaz) decides to kill herself and him after his eye turns to his best friend's girl Sofia Serrano. Left scarred and with the death of his obsessive lover on his record, Aames falls into a world of despair and insanity but as the tagline suggests, "Open your eyes." Is this truly happening? Some of the images captured on film showcases the isolation the character is going through and will be remembered as some truly memorable moments in film history. Not the typical formula big studio film but something one has to see for themselves to make up one's mind.

Joining both Cruise and Cruz were a parade of star obviously anxious to see both the latest offering from Cameron Crowe and Tom's brilliant acting. First off were costars Cameron Diaz, Jason Lee, Kurt Russell, Tilda Swinton, Alicia Witt, Johnny Galecki, Jennifer Aspen and Jennifer Gimenez. In addition to celebs Catherine Bell, James Marsden, Kevin Smith, Elliott Gould, Kirstie Alley, Paul McCrane, Sean Patrick Thomas, Diane Lane, Erika Christensen, Gloria Stuart, Jenna Elfman, Tamara Mello, Ron Livingston, Ron Kovic, Beck, Christian Slater, Christina Applegate with actor/husband Johnathon Schaech, Michelle Johnson, Mark Feurstein, Courtney Love, David Hasselhoff, Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith with Trudie Styler and ALMOST FAMOUS star Kate Hudson with husband Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson and Patrick Fugit with SMALLVILLE's Kristin Kreuk.
