Movie Synopsis: Thirteen Conversations About One Thing weaves five contemporary stories together into a single tale that examines the dramatic impact people have on one another. With a carefully constructed narrative that crisscrosses in time and doubles back on itself, the film offers an unusual glimpse into each character's past, present and future in ways that are both playful and poignant. The ideas it explores-the meaning of true happiness, the notion of karma, the eternal power of hope-strike with particular relevance in our increasingly frenetic, disjointed world.

A brilliant film proving the "6 degrees" theory, and how all of our actions somehow affect the lives of others. Some actions prove to be for the better, while others prove to have serious consequences. In "13 Conversations About One Thing", we see individuals all tied together through one basic action, and see the reactions it has on all of them. A very well formulated film, and wonderful cast bring this movie together to be a seamless cause and effect look at life.

A math professor, played by John Turturro, separates from his wife (Amy Irving), and soon buys a used BMW from the young lawyer (Matthew McConaughey). The lawyer (McConaughey) had recently been out celebrating a court victory, and chats with an unknown insurance adjuster (Alan Arkin), who warned him about the dire caprices of fate. A few hours later, a pretty house cleaner (Clea Duvall) is hit by that BMW, driven by the lawyer, and left for dead on the West Village cobblestones. But the lawyer can't escape his guilt. Those are just a few scenarios in this film. Proving that we are all connected in some way.

Flashbacks and flash-forwards are used to show the fated ties, and repercussions, but not enough to make you tired of trying to keep up. It's easy to be sympathetic with each character, as every cast member brings a flawless performance to the screen. Although, some of their actions are not acceptable, you empathize nonetheless.

This film will definitely make you think, but more importantly you will come to the realization that each life is in some way connected to everyone else, and there are consequences to everything we do in life. 13 Conversations About One Thing was a breath of fresh air and a definite eye opener. The Zone highly recommends this flick, and gives it a 7 out of 10.
