Zone's Eye View of "American Pie 2"

Visit EZ's Red Carpet Premiere of "American Pie 2"

Synopsis of movie:

The sequel to American Pie, one of the biggest grossing teen comedies ever. The script for the sequel was completely reworked by Adam Herz, the writer of the original. The action takes place one year after high school, when Kevin arranges for a reunion of sorts at a Lake Michigan beach house. Oz's girlfriend is in Paris studying, and he must resist different forms of temptation, which no doubt often come in the form of nubile young women. Nadia returns from the Czech Republic to put the moves on easily embarrassed Jim, who of course gets lots of advice from his easygoing dad. The rest of the crew has romantic and other entanglements to deal with, too.

Now for The Zone's Eye View

I was fully prepared to see another typical teen flick sequel and most likely just like the original “American Pie”. Surprisingly though, it was just as, if not more, hilarious than the first. So much for the “Sophomore Curse” on this one.  Throughout the hilarious situations, there was an actual plot and meaning behind the movie. I searched  way…way back in my memories, and could completely relate what these kids were going through.

A year after their high school graduation the “gang” reunites for the summer. Still looking for fun, women, and the perfect party, the guys decide to rent a house at the lake. They suffer through their outrageous situations and continue to get rejected by women. The familiar part is that they expect things to be just as they were when they were in high school. I think we’ve all been through that feeling!

They soon realize that’s not how life works. Throughout all the crazy antics and scenarios they get into, they seem to mature a notch. At least enough to realize that “things change”.

The entire cast is extremely talented, however, it did seem that Shannon Elizabeth changed her accent from the original movie, and then couldn’t decide what she wanted her accent to be in this movie. It seemed to be different each scene she was in. Mena Suvari and Tara Reid were not in the sequel as often as in the 1st, but nevertheless their performances were great. Alyson Hannigan (band camp girl) was in this sequel quite a bit, and they actually let her have a “brain”. She was very humorous and her role well acted. Eugene Levy once again stole the movie as Jason Biggs’ dad. Seann William Scott was his notable obnoxious self.  I was pleased at the way they handled Chris Klein’s (Oz) role also. His girlfriend (Mena Suvari) is away studying overseas, and yet they don’t have “Oz” chasing other women. Though he is tempted more times than one, he is completely loyal to his girlfriend.

These actors will definitely go far in this industry (with maybe the exception of Shannon Elizabeth!!).  I would definitely recommend American Pie 2 for good silly fun!  I’d rate the movie as a whole at a 6 out of 10.
