Synopsis of movie; Courtesy of Buena Vista Pictures: Good-natured veterinarian Corky Romano (Chris Kattan) is stunned when he receives a surprising call from his long lost father, "Pops" (Peter Falk), and underworld crime lord who has been indicted by a Grand Jury. With his trial just two weeks away, it looks as if the Mafia kingpin is finally going down. However, he still has an ace up his sleeve. Pops realizes that one person who can turn the tables and infiltrate the FBI undetected-and abscond the evidence against him-is Corky, who was banished from the "family" at a young age, for not fitting in.
Now for The Zone's Eye View By Laura Alber Looking more like a spin-off of "Night at the Roxbury" than an original film, comes "Corky Romano". Chris Kattan is really trying to take advantage of his SNL acclaim, but fails to do so on the big screen. There are a few silly scenes, but they are unable to carry the entire film. Also prevalent is the satirical look at organized crime. We have a "boss" who's dying, an illiterate son who never felt loved by his father (awwww), and another son who is a closet homosexual. Corky is also a son of "Pops", but is sent away at a very early age due to his inability to conform to the "family's" ways. When "Pops" (Peter Falk) is looking at a lengthy prison sentence from a case built by the FBI, they bring in Corky, who is unknown to the feds. Corky is an irritating little man, who walks around wanting to hug everyone, smiles at any situation, and wants to be the head veterinarian at his clinic. As with all his characters to date, Corky is an inept, clumsy, airhead, which quite frankly is wearing thin. The family reaches Corky, and brings him home. He is then informed of why he was brought back, and wanting to please his father, Corky is up for the task. He is given fake FBI credentials, and shipped off to headquarters. Through pure luck, he manages to "Forest Gump his way through" the cases he's given. It seems to take him forever to get into the evidence room, but finally manages his way in, and steal the files. Of course, not surprisingly, he immediately gets called away on a case, and leaves his briefcase behind. Big shocker, huh? The jokes in this film get old very quick, the dialogue leaves much to be desired, and the plot itself is so weak, it would have been better put to use as promotional material for aspiring directors, "Do not make a film that ends up looking like this". The Zone rates this bomb a 1 out of 10. No explanations needed, as you can see above.
