Storyline: Into the life of a widowed professor comes a new love and an unexpected visit from his adopted brother.
I'll say this: Dennis Quaid delivers.
It's as though he smacked Jeff Daniels (the Squid and the Whale) in the face with this performance and said "I one-upped you".
Although many, and likely most of you will disagree with that obscure non-similitic entirely metaphoric simile, I must state my mind of this piece.
Let me just pre-face this brief interlude with an heurstically observed statement of apparent simple fact:
The brightest and most intellectual of the human race have a tendency to set standards in their respective field or genre (whichsomever may apply) so high as to be, to the naked eye of the mind, an impossibility to attain, but which nevertheless continually raises the bar and intellect of our culture and of this human race so as to push it along and upwards...and you will know them by their underlying motive - sometimes it's hard to tell one from the other, such a fine line may separate them...
So despite their apparent bitter, cold and resounding resentfulness, they may, very well indeed be aiding themselves and another and the human race in striving higher towards perfection and the ultimate goal.
And having said that, this is a movie which Andy Hoover and Robin Feher could be proud of, look upon with fondness, and caress and nurture in their cinematically loving parental arms.
I digress.
The movie was exemplary.
...and now for the real review:
It's just about as unnecessarily and nonsensically intellectual as this review, which I maintain, from my point of view, is its under-toned, subtle comic structure.
