Synopsis of movie, courtesy of Sony Pictures: For an awkward, self-conscious girl like Kiki (Julia Roberts), being the personal assistant to a beautiful megastar like Gwen (Catherine Zeta-Jones) isn't easy. But when she dutifully accepts the task of helping Gwen and her estranged megastar husband Eddie (John Cusack) make it through one last public appearance masterminded by the legendary press agent Lee Phillips (Billy Crystal), forever devoted Kiki finds that her job is about to get even harder. Now for The Zone's Eye View By Laura Alber What can I say...I'm a very biased Julia Roberts fan! This movie had it all. The cast was incredible; Billy Crystal was, well...Billy Crystal! Great and Funny as always! John Cusack played an extremely funny schizophrenic, Catherine Zeta-Jones was a perfect cast for the rich, spoiled, self-centered actress (ooh...do I sound harsh??). And, I have to say, when I first saw Christopher Walken and the character he played, I thought I was going to fall on the floor laughing! He was perfect! And, of course Hank Azaria, the Latin "boy toy" with a thick Spanish accent and a lisp that is too funny to even try to describe. The premise of the movie is basically this-Billy Crystal has to get the now broken up "American Sweethearts" Eddie and Gwen, seemingly back together again for a press junket so people will want to see their latest film. Problem is, Gwen (Catherine Zeta-Jones) is now living with Hector (Hank Azaria), Eddie (John Cusack) is living in a Buddhist commune after trying to kill Gwen and her new Latin lover. Kiki (Julia Roberts) is Gwen's sister and personal assistant. Crystal begs her for help in getting Eddie and Gwen together at the junket for appearances. Through many funny scenes and circumstances, the two agree to do the junket for the "movie's sake". Eddie sees Kiki for the first time since he and Gwen separated and she's 60 pounds lighter. (I do want to note that there are several flashback scenes with "big Julia" and the makeup artists did a hell of a job!) Needless to say, Eddie is quite pleased about seeing Kiki look so good, but is still obsessed with Gwen. I won't give away any more than that about the plot. Each scene was full of hilarity, quirkiness, and good old fashioned humor and it has something in it for everybody. Don't assume this is a "chick flick" just because of Julia Roberts (although there are moments...). This is a movie everyone can enjoy. Not because I'm biased, but because the movie was brilliant-this one gets a 9 out of 10 from me. Definitely worth the rental! |
