Mike's "One Minute Review" of There Will Be Blood

by Mike Feher

Storyline: In the 1890s, Daniel Plainview, a struggling silver miner, finds his true wealth in petroleum extraction while taking the orphaned child, H.W., as his own for a valuable family man image. In 1911, Plainview gets a tip on a valuable supply on the struggling Sunday family ranch in the impoverished Little Boston, California. In his quest to acquire the property, Plainview meets the sanctimonious Eli Sunday, the young reverend of the local church with his own ambitions for his diocese and the profit from
the oil. As the oil wells begin, an escalating conflict arises between exploiters of many kinds while Plainview's canny ruthlessness gradually sinks into a slowly mounting malevolent madness. In doing so, it begins to drive every emotional bond away that all the wealth he gains can never replace.

Whew! Heavy shit! Not my bag of funyuns (cup 'o tea)...but heavy shit nonetheless.

There has never been a movie made with D.D. Lewis where he didn't rip my mind to shreds and sew it back together again with his intensity, and didn't fail to mind-fu*k me with this one.

Again. Heavy shit.

That pent-up-rage guy from Lil' Miss Sunshine who wants to fly jets (brother), he fuc*in' dominated stage and screen too!

It was like a mental mind-fu*k concateny of intense acting and life story of 2 really twisted individuals in the fields of Oil and Religion.

I don't know the back-story, but it was done so well that I automatically assumed it was based on true individuals who lived on planet Earth and they're actual lives.

Needless to say, a good movie.

(but not my bag of Funyuns)
